Breathing life into your creative practice by trying something new

There’s something incredibly powerful about trying something new, especially when it comes to creativity. Whether you're feeling stuck, uninspired, or just a bit flat in your art practice, stepping outside your usual rhythm can be like opening a window in a stuffy room. A rush of fresh air. A shift in energy. A reminder that creativity doesn’t have to follow the same path every time.
Doing something different, learning from a new teacher, experimenting with unfamiliar materials, or simply playing without expectation, has the potential to shake things up in all the best ways. It can move you out of autopilot and back into a space of curiosity and surprise. You don’t have to overhaul everything. Sometimes, the smallest change can open up entirely new directions.
This is why I often say yes to creative collaborations and seasonal opportunities that are outside my norm. Being part of something new brings not just inspiration, but also connection. When we make alongside others, we feel seen, supported, and reminded that we’re not creating in isolation. That shared energy can ripple through our work in unexpected ways. So when mixed media artist Francisca Nunes approached me to ask I would join her in Flowers Magic Art Fest this year I knew that my answer would be YES! Firstly, this was something I have never done before, taking part in an Art Fest with lots of other international artists. Secondly, the theme fit perfectly with my Word of the Year, which is Bloom. The stars aligned and it has all come together perfectly.
If you’re looking for a gentle, joyful way to shift your creative gears this summer, I’m part of this wonderful collaboration - Flowers Magic Art Fest - The Wild Edition. I would love it if you could come and join me and 13 other artists from around the glove for 20 days of floral inspiration. It’s a beautiful chance to explore new approaches and breathe life into your practice. The early bird price is just $67 for lifetime access until 30th June, so if you want to join, use this link (which will mean I also get a % of sales).
But whether you join us or not, consider this your invitation: do something different.
Shake things up. Let your creativity stretch its legs.
You never know what might bloom.
