Art Materials

I often get asked about the materials I use in my work. I have compiled this list with some links to the materials I use on a regular basis.

Sketchbooks

I have used many different shapes, sizes and formats of sketchbooks over the years but I do have some firm favourites which I find myself going back to time and again:

Gelli-Plate

I have two - my small one is 5x7 inches and you can find it here or my larger one at 12 x 14 inches which is here

Paper for Concertina Sketchbooks:

I have had many queries about what kind of paper I use for my Concertina Sketchbook Project and my go to for this is the A1 Snowdon's Cartridge Paper 300gsm which comes in packs of 50 sheets. from Jackson's Art Supplies

Paints, Inks and Liquid Media

Brusho Powders set of 12 in a box

Brusho Powders individual colours in a pot

Liquitex Acrylic Inks  which can be bought in packs or individually. I LOVE these inks!!

Winsor and Newton Drawing Ink

I also love the Jackson's Indian Ink which you can buy in different sizes here

Acrylic paints: well where to begin. There are many different brands from basic student grade up to super duper professional and expensive ones. I do like Daler Rowney System 3 and Winsor and Newton Galleria. As for colours I would say get which you prefer but if you don't know where to start I would say get a cool and warm of each primaruy plus Titanium White and Mars Black. I would probably recommend a cool and warm yellow e.g. Lemon Yellow and Cadmium Yellow Deep, a cool and warm red, e.g. Alizarin Crimson and Cadmium Red, and a cool and warm blue e.g. Cerulean and Ultramarine

Stabilo Woody - another fave of mine. Can be used wet or dry and you can find them here.

Derwent Inktense - can be used dry or wet, but as the name suggests they have ink-like qualities when used with water. They are divine and can be bought in sets or singles.

Pastels, Pencils and Pens

Sennelier Oil Pastels - my favourite brand, buttery soft with an amazing variety of colours. You can buy in boxes or singles. I also like the packs of 36 from Faber Castell.

Derwent Artist Pencils - which come in an amazing variety of colours and can be bought as singles or in sets

For soft pastels my go to brand is Sennelier again - I bought the big box and I LOVE them. YOu can buy them as singles here.

Tools etc

Daler Rowney Stay-Wet Palette  or you can make your own version of one of these with food trays and greaseproof paper - see my Instagram account for details
