Spring News

Spring is most definitely in the air and what better way to celebrate than to open up your studio to the public and give a glimpse of the place where all the magic happens? Well, folks that is exactly what I’m doing this year – I’m taking part in Open Studios Notts for the very first time and will be opening my studio doors on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th of May 2015 and you’re all welcome.

As well as little old me there will also be over 200 other artists & craft makers taking part in open studios and related events across our great county between 2 May & 14 June. There will also be an accompanying exhibition, ‘Bringing Artists into View’ at the Rufford Craft Centre gallery space from 3 May to 7 June (preview & launch event on Sun 3 May, 2-4pm), shining a light on the creative process and pointing to where and when events were taking place.

I’m forming a local trail with the lovely people from Gedling Artists who will be exhibiting at Burton Joyce Village Hall and there is also another venue not far away in Bingham where you can see art work from a selection of talented people. Over the course of the weekend I will be showcasing my original art work, limited edition prints, commissions, ceramics and greetings cards. If you’re interested and want to pop along please do. There will also be light refreshments and cake, with all donations for the cake and 10% of sales over the weekend going to Breast Cancer Care in memory of a very lovely lady who recently lost her battle against this cruel disease. Hoping to see lots of your friendly faces over the course of the weekend.

The following weekend I will be taking part in the Lady Bay Arts Festival . This year it is the 20th Lady Bay Art Festival so it’s going to be a good one. I asked the organisers to tell me a little more about the festival and this is what they had to say

Arts events have taken place in the residential area of Lady Bay since 1995. Coordinated by local artists and volunteers, every year we aim to provide an experience which is accessible and enjoyable.  We wish to create an diverse environment for professional and emerging artists and designers to show their work, sell it and to engage with the public. We hope everyone who visits comes away with a memorable experience of visual art shown outside a gallery or an art institution.

Besides the art trail, we want to make art a fun and rewarding experience for our younger visitors through workshops and demonstrations. We aim to provide an environment which safeguards children, young people & vulnerable adults’

So as well as trail around some of the loveliest venues in Lady Bay there will also be live music and refreshments available throughout the trail as well as work from 70 artists at 28 different venues. If you’re in the area and fancy a great day out please come along.
